Slavery was finally abolished in Barbados in 1834.<br/><br/>Bussa<br/>Following emancipation, the Barbadian people continued to fight for self-government.Full internal self-government was achieved in 1961, and Barbados joined the short-lived West Indies Federation from 1958 to 1962.<br/><br/>Independence and Beyond<br/><br/>On November 30, 1966, Barbados gained full independence from Britain.
