For many of us, education comes hand in hand with our childhood and teenage years – whether that’s learning to read and write or getting to grips with life’s everyday tasks and challenges. However, when it comes to money, each person has their own experience of gaining financial responsibility.

Looking to those around us to inspire better money habits could be key. Over a third of us (36%) say they’re regularly investing and saving having picked this up from others, and the same goes for paying off debt as quickly as possible (29%) and paying attention to savings rates and current accounts (19%).

Half (50%) of us admit to not discussing finances with family, friends, or peers until at least aged 19, while 15% confessed to leaving it past the age of 30. A further 20% of us aren’t open to discussing savings with family and friends at all, and just 14% are very open to discussing investments and pension contributions.

This late awakening could be impacting how hard UK consumers are making their money work, with 39% of consumers having not discussed savings products like ISAs at all when growing up – despite the potential benefits of the tax-free accounts.

Lifting the lid on those influences, only one in eight (13%) consider themselves to be very money savvy, but this more than doubles to 29% for those who consider their parents or guardians to be very money-savvy too. But money savviness doesn’t just come from friends and family.

Looking at wider influences, half (45%) of Brits mention experts like Martin Lewis, followed by banks (37%), newspapers or magazines (20%), and forums or the internet (20%). Schools or higher education (15%) and employers (14%) all rank lower.

The research from Nutmeg comes as we approach the end of the current Tax Year, at what can be a confusing time when many people may not be aware of the steps they can take to spring clean their finances. Claire Exley, head of advice and guidance at Nutmeg, is available for interviews to discuss the research, champion financial education, and share her top tips for building better financial health – from more discussions about money with our children and those around us, to how the late starters among us can catch up.

Sailors, rowers and swimmers in a pretty Victorian seaside resort face being left high and dry in a bizarre legal dispute over who owns an ancient slipway.<br/><br/>For more than a century boats have been launched off the 500ft-long slipway at Clevedon, North Somerset, and into the waters of the Bristol Channel.<br/><br/>But the sight of sailboats and racing gig boats could become a thing of the past as the 140-year-old slipway risks being washed away unless vital repairs are made.<br/><br/>The local council will not accept ownership, which has passed through several now-defunct authorities since it was built for Victorian pleasure boaters in 1884.<br/> <br/>North Somerset Council (NSC) insisted it 'only owned a few' feet of it when first approached about repair work in 2016.<br/><br/>Eight years on there is still no solution and local groups including Clevedon Sailing Club (CSC) are becoming increasingly concerned about its state of disrepair. <br/><br/>The top surface is already pitted with potholes and CSC want the NSC to accept ownership and fund repairs which could cost up to £200,000.<br/><br/>This week NSC is set to divert cash earmarked for repairs to pay for work to 'row back' Clevedon's controversial £1.3m 'wobbly lanes' road scheme which hit the headlines last year.<br/><br/>CSC commodore Mark Elliott is concerned that sections of the ageing slipway could be soon be washed away in storms and be lost to the community forever.<br/><br/>His concerns have been backed by local MP Sir Liam Fox.<br/><br/>Mr Elliott said: \

Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg pushed the referee over in a bizarre incident.<br/><br/>Hojbjerg was frustrated that official Allard Lindhout was blocking his path to the ball and proceeded to shove him over.<br/><br/>The incident occurred during Denmark's goalless draw in a friendly at home to Switzerland, with Hojbjerg not being punished. <br/><br/><br/>Tottenham midfielder Hojbjerg played 84 minutes, with Manchester United stars Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen also starting.<br/><br/>Joachim Andersen of Crystal Palace and Leicester's Jannik Vestergaard were also involved, while Brentford's Mathias Jensen featured as a substitute.<br/><br/>Commenting on Hojbjerg's push on the referee, one user wrote on X: 'Definitely a red if he did that in Premier League'.<br/><br/>However, another user argued that Hojbjerg's actions were 'completely justified'.<br/><br/>Another user defended Hojbjerg, writing: 'To be fair.. I'm sick of refs getting in the way, I feel like they don't try hard enough to avoid it.<br/><br/>However, one user claimed that Hojbjerg should have been sent off. They wrote: 'That’s a red card in my books, I wouldn’t take that personally'.<br/><br/>Hojbjerg has featured 27 times for Tottenham in the Premier League so far this season, however only six of those have come from the start. <br/><br/>Despite links away from the club in January, he and his lawyer both confirmed that he would stay and continue to fight for his place. <br/><br/>'I feel I can help the team,' he said earlier this campaign. 'Again, I showed that I'm ready and of course, like everyone I want to start every game. There's no secret in that.<br/><br/>'We're all ambitious but I think the important thing is to stay ambitious on behalf of the team. <br/><br/>'This is the main thing that we can all keep our ambitions from the team's perspective. We all have to perform for the team.<br/><br/>'The key is that we are playing for something. As I say now, I always said in the past that the purpose of fighting for something drives me, and I feel that Tottenham is fighting for something.<br/><br/>Denmark are back in action on Tuesday when they host the Faroe Islands. <br/><br/>Hojbjerg has a lot of international experience, having been capped by his country on 74 occasions.<br/><br/>Denmark is in England's group at Euro 2024, including Slovenia and Serbia.<br/>
