Six in 10 Americans swear they can “get all the exercise they need” without ever stepping foot inside a gym.

A new study of 2,000 U.S. adults, commissioned by Nature’s Bounty, a vitamin and probiotic brand, and conducted by OnePoll, found the average person considers themselves active five times per week and exercises four times per week — and 54% said they “never” go to the gym.

Since many skip the gym, they’re getting their exercise in other ways. Almost all respondents surveyed (98%) believe they can get a workout in while taking on everyday tasks.

Those tasks include harnessing the power of everyday activities like walking around the neighborhood (74%), taking the stairs (60%), doing yard work (59%), cleaning the home (59%), walking the dog (56%) and bringing in groceries into the home (42%).

Is your yard ready for summer entertaining?

A new survey polling 2,000 U.S. adults with backyards found that 81% would look forward to hosting parties in their backyard, but 14% admitted that they would need some time to prepare given the current state of their space.

According to respondents, 34% would have to improve their backyards before hosting, spending seven hours weekly and up to $1,400 to get their yards guest ready.

The survey, commissioned by Big Lots and conducted by Talker Research, revealed just how many Americans are looking forward to hosting a backyard soiree this year and what many feel they need to do to be best prepared.

Proper patio furniture (57%) was respondents’ most sought-after improvement, followed by sprucing up their existing patio furniture (39%), setting up bug repellants (37%) and installing lights (36%).

Hosting these get togethers can add up though, so budget is important to keep in mind. The average person felt they could host a party for as low as $190, with four in five (82%) saying it’s important to them that they stick to their budget if they plan on getting any new patio furniture or other improvements ahead of an event.

“Sprucing up the backyard is more than a simple task, it’s an investment in creating memories with loved ones that will last a lifetime,” said Shelly Trosclair, SVP Merchandising at Big Lots. \

When Shaboozey was writing “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” he wanted to keep the arrangements sounding as organic as possible. He built the track around J-Kwon’s 2004 hit “Tipsy,” and within an hour, he had his very own ode to raising a glass — with a country twist. The megahit quickly went viral and topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart, surpassing “Texas Hold ’Em” by Beyoncé. (Shaboozey had actually teamed up with her for two songs on her recent country LP, Cowboy Carter.) Together, they became the first two Black artists to lead that chart back-to-back.

The Influences

Around the time that he wrote the song, Shaboozey had been listening to a lot of music by artists like Zach Bryan and the Lumineers. But although he was inspired by their stripped-back acoustics, he was also channeling hip-hop heavyweights like Pharrell Williams for the four-to-the-floor instrumental breakdown. (And of course, he wanted to pay homage to J-Kwon’s knack for partying.) “Some people said it reminds them of [Oasis’] ‘Wonderwall,’ ” Shaboozey says. “I don’t hear it.”

All Together Now

In the same way that J-Kwon captured the essence of the club on “Tipsy,” Shaboozey wanted his song to channel the liveliness of a packed dive bar. Shaboozey achieved the stomp-and-shout elements of the single by bringing in friends to layer on vocals. “We love incorporating gang vocals and all our friends singing things,” the Nigerian American musician says. “I think the more energy and the more people you put on a song, the more it’s felt.” He adds that because he was working with producers Nevin Sastry and Sean Cook, the studio “definitely turned into a party by the end of the song, which is a good sign.”
